Kal Hourd

Kal Hourd’s debut album is about to get a launch of epic proportions.
“Haven’t Even Met Yet,”  will make a trip into the great unknown when Canadian astronaut Julie Payette takes a copy of the disc into space on June 13. Payette is scheduled to take part in a 16-day mission aboard the space shuttle Endeavour and she plans on relaxing to the tracks on “Haven’t Even Met Yet” while in space.

Payette contacted Hourd through his website ( to request a copy of the album to take into space. Hourd, a singer/songwriter based in Saskatoon, will join the likes of The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Sarah McLachlan and Taylor Swift among the select few artists to have their music blasted into space.

Hourd, who is slated to play Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Pump Roadhouse, has also been invited by the Canadian Space Agency to attend the launch at Cape Canaveral, Fla.

A two-time nominee as male vocalist-of-the-year by the Saskatchewan Country Music Association, Hourd won the 2009 SCMA award for video-of-the-year for “When Pink Is Just A Colour Again.” The song is an emotional tribute dedicated to those who have been affected directly, or indirectly, by breast cancer.
